Giovanni Viale retired twice from TEC-SIM and then returned with a new role
The metalworking company TEC-SIM calls back a retired welder to train young employees. It happens in Silea and the main character of this story is Giovanni Viale, who was born in 1955 and retired since 2012.
Hired by TEC-SIM in 2001, Viale spent most of his working life in company based in Silea, where he gained decades of experience in stainless steel welding and pressure vessels manufacturing. In 2012, Viale reached the retirement age but he returned to business after a short break as he was appreciated for his welding skills (TIG, MIG/MAG and electrode). In July 2023, Viale regains full-time retirement until spring 2024, when TEC-SIM offers him a new role as a trainer to newly employed welders.

«It is harder and harder to find experienced welders. In addition to this, we are required to offer special, top-end processes and quality as suppliers of the pharmaceutical industry» explains TEC-SIM CEO Gabriele Da Re. «Therefore, we have decided to set up an in-house training project. And what better teacher could we choose than a skilled and experienced welder who has worked for us for twenty years?».
Thanks to the training project, four newly hired welders acquired new skills and others perfected their techniques. Eventually, the course allowed these welders to qualify in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 9606-1 European regulation regarding stainless steel welding. «It’s been a pleasure for me to take part to this training project» declares Giovanni Viale. «I am proud to transfer what I have learned over many years of activity and thus contribute to guaranteeing the excellence of TEC-SIM manufacturing».
«We are lucky we can still find rare and available resources like Giovanni Viale who have dedicated their professional lives to our company» concludes Da Re, inviting professional schools to involve people who still have so much to offer in terms of skills transfer. «Their involvement could also contribute to greater alignment between the education system and the real needs of the labor market».
